Celebrating the life of GM Sutherland

1958 -2019

Grand Master Sutherland began training in ITF Taekwon-Do in 1974 in Bathgate Scotland and has been continuously active and a successful exponent for over 45 years. Grandmaster Sutherland was promoted by one of the original Grandmasters, Grandmaster Charles Sereff which in itself gives her promotion an extra mark of quality. (See promotion HERE)

Grandmaster Sutherlands career makes her a very good role model for all women in Taekwon-Do and demonstrates how far serious dedication and hard work can take you regardless of gender. Her success can be extended to all Taekwon-Do practitioners in the world, men and women included, who should see her as an example of genuine ITF Taekwon-Do quality.

Grand Master Sutherland’s career as a black belt in Taekwon-Do began in March 1977 when she achieved her 1st Degree Black belt. In June 2017 she was promoted to the 9th Degree Black Belt in Taekwon-Do by Grandmaster Charles Sereff.

Among her many impressive achievements include founding the United Kingdom Tae Kwon-Do Federation (1987), TKD Scottish independence and founder of ITF Scotland 1997, founding Member of Scottish Council of Tae Kwon- Do and the Outstanding Instructor Medal award presented by General Choi Hong Hi 1994 in Malaysia.

GM Sutherland has also hosted many events among them the 1991 and 1993 IIC with General Choi, 2000 European Championships and participated in many international competitions and events including 15 European championships and 12 World championships and completed many International Instructor Courses as well as Umpiring courses.

Grandmaster Sutherland continues to play an important role in the development of ITF Taekwon-Do not only at her Dojangs in Bathgate and Livingston but throughout the world.

Grandmaster Sutherland decided to set this website up to share over 40 years worth of ITF newsletters, grading results and other articles.  In Grandmaster Sutherland's words these articles are the property of all TKD students.

Grand Master Sutherland sadly passed away on the 17th September 2019
